It’s nearly December and that familiar, stressful feeling is starting to creep in. The weather is getting the slightest bit of chilly here in Texas and holiday decorations are up. Believe it or not, we are officially in the midst of the holiday season, and the pressure of holiday gift giving has replaced the warmth of summer.

Fear not! Here are a few gift ideas that are perfect for your Secret Santa at work, the grill master in your family or your dear friend that loves Texas BBQ.

  1. Beef Roast with Rub — This is an obvious choice for us. We love sending parents a beef roast for Christmas with a bottle of tasty rub to compliment it.  The best part is (selfishly) getting to enjoy the gift too!  There are plenty of online retailers that will allow you to pick the size of the roast and will gift package it beautifully for a festive arrival. And here is a beef roast recipe and a how-to video.

  2. Cookbooks — From international cuisine like Mediterranean or Korean cooking styles to cooking methods like smoking or grilling, you can find a cookbook to satisfy just about any taste bud. May I suggest Texas Cowboy Cooking by Tom Perini of Perini Ranch Steakhouse in Buffalo Gap, Texas?

  3. Rubs, Marinades and Sauces — Grab your favorite bottles of local rubs, marinades and sauces as a gift – there’s no shortage of these around Texas. Put them in a basket to add a little holiday flair! Here are some of our favorite beef rub recipes if you feel like making your own!
  4. Grill Accessories — You can get them as a set or individually.  Think tongs, spatulas and grill brushes. You can even practice your grilling skills with these grilling tips and become a Grill Master.

  5. Meat Thermometer — You know this handy little gadget would make my list. Everyone, and I mean everyone, should own AND USE a meat thermometer. There are a ton of options that I talk about in a previous post all about meat thermometers, but I can’t rave enough about how much better the meat turns out when it’s prepared to the proper doneness.  Just get one for yourself, your family members and your friends.  Don’t think — just do!
  6. Steak Knives — The good thing about these are that they come in all kinds of price points. You can get awesome steak knife sets fairly inexpensively, and from personal experience, steak knives get the best reaction from the gift receiver! Here’s a steak recipe to help break in those knives.
  7. Slow Cooker or Dutch Oven — These come in a variety of sizes, so whether your special person needs to cook for one or for a family of four, there is a Dutch oven or slow cooker that fits the bill. Beef stews, pot roasts and Sunday dinners will thank you! And of course here’s a slow cooking pot roast recipe that can be used in that slow cooker!
  8. Kabob Skewers — Also often forgotten, many stores now carry an assortment of adorable styles of skewers.  They have the straight ones that we all are familiar with, but many also have fun handles or are spiral and curvy-shaped that make grilling so much fun! Print out this kabob recipe to accompany your awesome, thoughtful gift!
