Preparation

Step 1
In a large skillet over MEDIUM heat add olive oil.

Add onions and cook until almost tender, then add garlic and cook until fragrant.

Add Ground Beef, crumble and cook until no longer pink.

Add ketchup, hoisin, soy sauce, brown sugar, sweet red chili sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Salt and pepper to taste.

Bring mixture to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes.

To prepare cabbage slaw, in a medium bowl, combine shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, mayonnaise, lime juice, and zest. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Fill each bun with sloppy joe mixture, sprinkle with green onions, and top with slaw.

Fantastic! The hoisin and sweet chili sauce have enough sweetness so I did not add the brown sugar. I did add a little gochujang paste to give it a little kick but the recipe is very flavorful as is! I used rice vinegar instead of apple cider vinegar in the slaw to keep with the Asian theme. Will never go back to traditional Joe’s again!
